If you are a member of Chatham-Kent Quilters’ Guild, you might like to join out Block Of The Month (BOM) program to make one block a moth using the instruction from the newsletter. By the end of the year you will have a beautiful finished quilt! Here are your fabric requirements for our 2018 Mystery Quilt:
Background = 5 yards of the same fabric. The fabric should be tone-on-tone, solid or a subtle batik. Your background can be a light or a dark. A medium background will not work for this quilt pattern.
Other fabric = total of 4 yards (approximately) of assorted fabrics. This works well as a scrappy quilt. If you use a light background fabric, all of your assorted fabrics should be obviously darker than your background (either mediums or darks). If you use a dark background fabric, all of your assorted fabrics should be obviously lighter than your background (either mediums or lights).
Assorted fabrics – Choose fabrics with good contrast to your background. Avoid prints or batiks that have large areas that are the same colour as your background fabric. You can keep your fabrics in a similar colour family (such as blues and greens) or mix them up. Throw in a couple of dull or ugly pieces as they will make your other fabrics sparkle.
Suggestions for successful fabric selection: Light background – try cream, white, light grey or the lightest shade of a colour Dark background – try indigo, chocolate, hunter green, charcoal, black or the darkest shade of a colour.
