Another great year! Have tracked the paths of 265 Comfort Quilts! Chatham Kent Quilters’ Guild members have worked hard. Many thanks to all who participate in this Outreach, especially the Monday sewers. It takes us all, the quilters (from start to finish), the members who share the names of those in need of this comfort, and those who deliver the quilts. The reactions and appreciation shown by recipients, make it all so worthwhile!
117 Local & Beyond … includes Habitat for Humanity, McMaster Hosp (Children), fire victims, and this year, several local children.
58 Childcan, London …children with cancer.
59 Chatham Kent Health Alliance, … Women’s & Children care.
31 Slab quilts, … participating in a challenge by Canadian Quilters Guild, celebrating “Canada 150” , for Ronald MacDonald Houses.
Grand total of 265 … lots of caring, sharing and hugs in those quilts.
Our funds were provided by monies from Show Quilt Raffle, memorial donations, personal donations, a grant of $ 1000 from Walmart, and “pass the hat” to pay for batting for the slab Quilts. We were in the Guild budget for $ 1000, also. In 2018, we will be using funds from Marianne’s Market, thus not needing Guild Funds.
Activities included a Spring workshop “making cuddle quilts”, supporting the children’s workshop, the parading of quilts at meetings, and exhibits to encourage participation; And, 19 Mondays of sewing, fun, and fellowship, while creating Comfort Quilts. We did not have a Christmas Quilt Raffle, this year. We appreciated several donations of materials, some completed quilts and tops from a former member. In fact, too many gifts to mention all.
It is a good day, to have a good day !
